Beautiful Jewellery And A Good Cause: The 2021 Banchory Bangle Is Here!
Here at Taylor’s on the High Street, we’re proud to have been part of the Banchory community since 1981...
We’ve been bringing fabulous furniture to the Aberdeenshire High Street for a long time now, and while we love making houses into homes, it’s not all we do here! One thing we’re particularly passionate about is helping out a great cause. Taylor’s on the High Street has taken part in the Banchory Bangle fundraiser for years and has raised more than £170,000 for Children 1st. You can purchase raffle tickets at our Banchory store, and online. This year is the 45th fundraiser, and with less than a month till the draw, we’re letting you know why you need to enter!
What Is The Banchory Bangle?
Who doesn’t love getting jewellery from doing a good deed?
Each year, the Banchory Bangle features a raffle that raises money for a truly worthy cause. Children 1st is Scotlands national children’s charity that offers help to families and even provides professional help and counselling. The charity works with the Scottish government on everything from laws that affect kids to protection. It’s a fantastic cause that boosts children in communities all over Scotland, and this fundraiser helps to support all the great work that they do.
“Whether you want to add to your jewellery collection or give it away as a gift, each of these bangles are a truly singular piece.”
So, what do you win in the draw? Well, our favourite silversmith Malcolm Appleby actually creates a custom bangle with all of his signature flair and skill. Dr Appleby has created 45 designs, and each one is a gorgeous addition to any jewellery box. Whether you want to add to your jewellery collection or give it away as a gift, each of these bangles are a truly singular piece. We actually had a chance to speak to the man behind these creations earlier this year!
What Are The Prizes?
Hampers full of bath products are all well and good of course, but the Banchory Bangle really blows other raffles out of the water.
Possibly the second best bit about this raffle (the first being how much money it raises of course!) is that the prizes on offer are so gorgeous. For just £1 or £10 per book of 10 you can be one of three lucky winners. The prizes are:
- First Prize: The original Banchory Bangle in 18ct red gold and a silver copy
- Second Prize: A copy of the bangle in sterling silver
- Third Prize: A copy of the bangle cast in bronze
This year’s design features the falling autumn ginkgo leaves that you can see around Banchory, and the red gold of the top prize captures them perfectly!
Malcolm Appleby
A talented artist with decades of expertise under his belt, each piece from Malcolm Appleby is a work of art.
We chatted with Malcolm a few months ago on our blog about everything from where he finds his inspiration, why he chose to stock his jewellery pieces at Taylor’s on the High Street, and how the Banchory Bangle came to be. It all started as a stall at the Banchory Fair, sold on the day to the highest bidder.
The pieces were incredibly popular, and Dr Appleby even advertised them in a local Banchory butcher shop! After a few years, he realised that while auctioning off the bangle did raise money for Children 1st, it meant that only a few people had the chance to win. Holding a raffle instead meant that everyone had a chance to win one of these bangles and since each ticket only costs £1 it means that anyone can get involved.
“I really enjoy doing it, part of it is the teamwork with the strong Deeside community that supports it, and of course, Taylor’s is a part of that.”
Malcolm Appleby on creating the Banchory Bangle
After 21 Banchory Bangles, he decided to create one from gold rather than silver as a special edition bracelet that was a huge success. With most of the design motifs coming from nature, there’s something for everyone in this collection.
Now, winners can enjoy a gold, silver, and bronze bangle and the designs have only gotten better and better. Malcolm’s personal favourite “Wren and Ivy” is still available as part of our range, alongside his other outstanding designs. So, even if you don't have a winning ticket you can still flaunt one of these designs.
How Can I Enter The Banchory Bangle Fundraiser Raffle?
You really don’t want to miss out on the opportunity to win one of these bangles, so how do you enter?
You can purchase raffle tickets either online on the Children 1st website, or you can pay us a visit at our store here:
Taylor’s on the High Street

Tickets are just £1 each or £10 per book of 10 and must be purchased before November 22nd online and in-store. The raffle will be drawn on the 28th of November at the Banchory Lodge Hotel at 3.00 pm.
