How To Design The Perfect Home Office September 20, 2023
3 Colour Trends In 2023 You Need To Know About
We are a quarter of the way through 2023, and we can definitely say that this year has been a bold one so far...
This year, interior colour trends are all about how colours make you feel, whether you're looking to create a space where you feel calm, energised, happy or productive. Our colour experts at Taylor's On The Highstreet can help you find the perfect hues to incorporate into your home, to help both splash personality into your rooms and create a space that you feel proud of.
This year, there are 3 standout colours that are set to take the fashion, commercial and design world by storm, so let's walk through them and find out whether these are your dream shades for your next home makeover...
Viva Magenta
After Pantone announced that ‘Viva Magenta’ is their colour of the year for 2023, it's no shock that it landed on our list of colour trends for interior design!
Pantone Colour Institute is globally recognised as a leading source when it comes to colour expertise, providing insights and solutions to a range of sectors, whether it is graphics, interiors, branding or textiles.
Viva Magenta is a vibrant descendant of the red family, with animated pink hues, that embodies strength and draws inspiration from nature. If you’re looking to incorporate this fun shade into your home, we have some good tips you might want to consider…
Splash It Across Your Decor
Hints of colour in a neutral room are always a fun way to incorporate some brightness into your space. Being creative with your interiors can be as easy as adding some vibrant cushions, throws, wall art, lamps or even flowers. Even better, pairing these pieces together will help tie the room together, giving it elements of luxury and relaxation.
A Lick Of Paint
If you’re feeling a bit bored with your bland cream walls, why not create a fun feature wall?
Painting even just one wall in your living room, bedroom or even kitchen can completely transform a space. Creating a feature wall can not only fill a large vacant area but can add texture and dimensions to your room, and even make your ceilings appear higher. (If you paint the ceiling - it can help make your space look even longer too!)
Using Viva Magenta on your walls is not only going to add a modern vibe to your space, but balance out warm and cool tones in the room. The colour is made by mixing equal parts of red and blue pigments together, creating a shade that is often described as vibrant, bold, and luxurious. Raspberry blush is also a popular colour choice for home design this year...
If you’re wondering where you can find paint in Viva Magenta style, we stock a fantastic matte colour from ‘Little Greene’ in shade ‘Mischief’ - find out for yourself!
Chocolate Tones
I mean…what’s better than chocolate?
All things vintage have well and truly made a comeback in 2023, whether it be fashion, furniture or interior design. This year, there has been a significant nod to the 1970s in terms of home decor, with the reintroduction of chocolate tones, with browns, taupes, charcoals and caramel tones becoming increasingly popular across everything from upholstery to paint.
Being a warm and neutral shade, browns often make a particularly good living room colour scheme. Not only do chocolate shades bring depth and dimensions to a space, but evoke feelings of calmness and relaxation, due to their natural earthy tones.
Chocolate Coated
If your desired space has a lot of wooden or beige furniture, pairing it with chocolate walls will make the perfect recipe. Mixing the colour palettes from caramel to dark cocoa together will not only create a visually appealing cohesive room but emphasise and complement each individual piece of decor.
We stock the perfect shades of brown paint if you are looking to create your own little peaceful paradise, being the Little Greene shades in Chocolate Colour and Hammock (which work very well together too!)
Sweet Statement Pieces
If you’re not keen on the paint colour concept, why not incorporate chocolate hues into your furniture?
Having bold statement pieces in your home can help elevate your space if you want to keep your walls and flooring more subtle. White, cream and other neutral colours can be brightened up with the use of warm deep furniture.
Opting for a deep brown sofa, or a warm dark wood coffee table plays into the ongoing trend of ‘soulful minimalism’, as having cool tones and sharp lines are being replaced by natural materials, texture and a neutral colour palette of warm whites, browns and greens.
We stock the perfect kind of sofa for this style, the Julien Bowen Vivo Sofa in Chestnut is a modern and elegant way to bring the earthy style into your home while maintaining the room's natural light. Alternatively, this stunning industrial Multi-Shelf Unit adds the desired milk chocolate tones to your space in a more simple, yet effective way.
Ultramarine Blue
Another one of the upcoming colour trends in 2023 that will grace both the runways and home decor, is a shade of blue called ultramarine. It is a hue that is striking, highly concentrated, and elegant.
You may have seen this colour of blue before, in the famous Johannes Vermeer painting ‘Girl With A Pearl Earring’, where the girl is seen wearing an ultramarine headscarf. Now, somewhat 350 years later, it's back in style once again and can act as a wonderful way to bring some character into your home.
Whether it be subtle touches such as paintings, candles and vases, this colour can transform a simple space into something a little more lavish. The animated shade is a fun way to exaggerate the visual boundaries of a small room, especially if your home has a large amount of white, as this is the perfect pairing!
We have a few examples of how we love to incorporate this colour into homes, with the brand Julian Bowen taking the spotlight.
We stock a stunning range of sofas and chairs on our website and in our Banchory store, such as the Afina Sofa Bed, Coco Chair and Bellagio Chair.
Alternatively, if you are looking to create an ultramarine shrine, pairing crips white walls with the Little Greene paint in Deep Space Blue in the form of a feature wall will not only open up the space of your room, but the hues are known to create an oasis of calm, making it the perfect concept for either a living room, kitchen, bathroom OR bedroom.
Do any of these colours resonate with your personal style? If you're in the mood for a home refresh, why not try one of these colours out? If you're looking for something a little more subtle, there are a few further neutral shades that are hot in 2023, being; beige blush, digital lavender and Bottega green.
